“A man can receive nothing,
except it be given him from [out of] heaven” John 3:27.
“What do you have that
you did not receive?” 1 Corinthians. 4:7
It is clear that man cannot
obtain anything nor become anything unless it is given to him out from God. Prayer
is God’s appointed way of dispensing to us and our way of obtaining from God.
“Request and you shall obtain, that your joy may be full”. (John 16:24, CLV)
Through prayer we receive from
God that which needful for “living” and for our “function” in God. God is the
life of man and man ever stands in need of Him. Without
prayer, we have no relationship with God, we are cut off from God like the
branch of a tree that is cut off, withers, and dies.
“I am the vine; you are the
branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit,
for apart from me you can do nothing.” John 15:5
Anyone who engages in the practice of prayer lives more fully because through prayer we receive Grace from God, as branches receives sap from the vine for fruit-bearing.
“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. Heb. 4:16
Prayer is engaging God, through this engagement we come to “know God” and “acquaint” ourselves with him and as a
result we are empowered to fulfill our “function” in Him. Our function is that
God fulfills himself through us, just a tree fulfills its by producing fruit
through the branches.
In prayer we are lifted above
ourselves, our problems and conditions to see that God is in charge, “who works
out all things in accord with the counsel of His will”, (Ephesians 1:11). We
are then comforted, strengthened and empowered with renewed perspectives that helps
us face and overcome challenges of living. We have to rise above the level of
any problem to solve it and to rise, we need turn our attention from the
problem and concentrate on God.
“You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” Isa. 26:3
Prayer is the our way of keeping our minds fixed on God, on true reality, on truth. When we are fixed on the truth, we become immovable and unshakable in the face of any situation.
It is therefore crucial that everyone learns how to engage prayer effectively because, “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much”, (James 5:16).
Understanding the benefits of prayer to everyone who engages in its practice, it is therefore necessary that we learn how to maximizing it - get the most out of prayer.
The result of maximizing prayer is obtaining fulfillment, “fullness of joy”, (John 16:24)

God bless you
